A man traveling in an allegedly stolen car has plowed through a coffee shop overnight in Melbourne’s north-east.
police allege the man was first spotted traveling at “high speeds” in Southbank about 1.30am.
Officers attempted the car after the driver failed to stop at red traffic lights in Richmond, while allegedly driving at approximately 120km/h in a 40km/h zone.
Highway patrol officers attempted to intercept the car a second time on Nicholson Street in Fitzroy North but the car didn’t stop.
A driver lost control before crashing into a coffee shop at the intersection of Nicholson Street and Miller Street.
A 43-year-old man was arrested and taken to hospital for observation under police guard.
He is expected to be charged with theft of a motor vehicle and multiple driving, drug and weapon attacks.
